Facing off Gold, Silver and Platinum with Titanium

Titanium Jewellery possesses many fine attributes, which makes it a worthy choice for us. Choosing its outstanding qualities for ourselves can without question fashion our titanium choices with excellence in our gifts to others. The traditional precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum are not the end-all of exceptional selections.

Titanium's high resistance to corrosion protects its luster and keeps it from tarnishing hand over fist above the ability of the others. We can predict in fact that gold and silver bracelets, for instance, will in time lack their distinct luminosity, diminishing the brilliance we bought the Jewellery for. The oxygen we live on affects the metals chemically, fading their color. And if we wear the Jewellery more than we store it, the perspiration from our bodies speeds up this process.

The hypoallergenic nature of titanium adds to our desire to buy the Jewellery, especially for people whose skin reacts adversely to traditional precious metals; silver and gold is often mixed with nickle, which many people are allergic to. Titanium very rarely reacts with biological tissues and its alloys, and choosing it allays the pain and suffering of allergies.

Titanium's durability and scratch resistance exceeds the other metals by quite a margin. We can engage in outdoor activities with no thought of damaging our rings and things, even in water sports. When we wear our silver and gold, our caution compels us to remove the items during many activities to prevent us from defacing the Jewellery with scratches or worse. We can avoid such inconveniences when we select titanium Jewellery for our everyday wear. An enjoyable aspect of titanium promotes comfort with its strength to weight ratio. The much stronger titanium as compared to silver and gold is also a lot lighter than they are; even steel loses out to our long enduring titanium.

The fashion setters wear titanium Jewellery. Its newness and versatility in the industry has created dynamic and innovative combinations with silver, gold, and also gems. The jewelers can engrave it, can manifest the illustrious finish the same as with the traditional adornments. Unlike gold and silver, a jeweler can add color to men's titanium rings or men's titanium bracelets with anodization.

Correct Care for Cherished Silver Jewellery

I'd like to talk to you today about the close attention we should pay to our unique sterling silver Jewellery , the knowledge we need to consistently care for it correctly, and a few interesting facts surrounding the precious metal. We'll first cover a few of the “don't(s)” we should heed. We'll go over a couple of points on keeping it clean. This covers the subject of oxidized silver and what tarnished silver has to do with it. Lastly, we'll suggest the absolute best way to store the Jewellery.

When we swim or soak with our Jewellery on, we must limit ourselves to the fresh water of a lake or spring-fed pool. The chlorinated water in a pool will turn this treasured metal black. The same goes for the leisure of mineral spas and hot tubs. Take off your silver when enjoying these luxuries.

We should never dip our Jewellery to clean it. Commercial cleaning solutions may claim that they clean silver and they will the first few times, but prolonged use passes a limit that prevents the lustrous shine from lasting and it will never return. Don't trust any cleaning solution that requires dipping the Jewellery, commercial or not. It can also destroy the aging effect jewelers apply by oxidizing it.

Be sure to consult your jeweler before cleaning your rhodium plated silver Jewellery with anything.

Although we may best care for silver by keeping it free of perspiration, which causes it to more quickly lose color and shine as the metal reacts with the oxygen, heavier designs and other silver Jewellery need less polishing when worn often. Our skin oils help prevent unwanted tarnishing. When much of the surface area stays in contact with our skin, this silver remains relatively untarnished. When the metal reacts with hydrogen sulfide in our air, it yields silver sulfide on the creation's surface, which is tarnish. But, a professional Jewellery polishing cloth cleans very nicely at need, in which the fabric holds cleaning chemicals to polish the creation brilliantly every time. The design of the polisher keeps it lasting through many applications.

When we polish our silver Jewellery, we shouldn't let this necessity drive us to clean so thoroughly as to prevent the beautiful aging effect the very slight build-up of tarnish will give the precious metal. This will occur naturally in the recesses, nooks, and crannies where the polish does not reach. Jewelers oxidize silver for this by controlled tarnishing; tarnishing is oxidation.

Sterling silver 925 means that its purity is at least 92.5%. The 7.5% of other metals, usually copper, hardens the metal to a usable suitability for functional adornments. Fine silver, 99.99% pure, scratches far too easily because of its extreme softness, which creates problems handling or using for anything in its purest state.

The best way store our precious silver treasures by wrapping them in microfiber cloth and inserting anti-tarnish paper strips with them into a special type of plastic bag we may mechanically create a vacuum with in the protective space. Renold's makes a hand-held device and the bags they sell with it have an access to apply the 8 or so inch vacuum. Store the bag in a Jewellery box or safe, perhaps. For large quantities of silver, wrap individual pieces in microfiber cloths with the anti-tarnish strips and American Tourister makes plastic bags with ports for a regular vacuum.

Authenticity and Purity Scratch Testing for Silver

With genuine interest in silver, many people collect sterling silver Jewellery. Sterling silver contains at least 92.5% of pure silver. Jewellery acquired from unknowledgeable persons or outright criminals can result in fervent dissatisfaction. Brass or copper covered with an electroplated layer of sterling silver shines nicely for awhile, many times labeled 'SP' (silver plated) and might be worth buying if we know that it is plated. But when others deceive by charging pure sterling silver prices on unlabeled Jewellery, we will likely get a little upset when we discover fraud. Collectors and anyone intent on certainly knowing the quality of the silver that they purchase learn how to test for authenticity and purity, leaving no room for question.

Silver-looking pieces contain base metals polished up to resemble silver. But sterling silver Jewellery is generally labeled '.925' for its purity or may be marked 'SS' (sterling silver). We shouldn't assume anything about the content of silver if the Jewellery lacks these markings. Many times, a clasp reveals the '.925' or 'SS' that we can better see with a jeweler's magnifying glass. We must then check the color of the clasp against the color of the rest of the piece because we just don't know that one plus one equals two pieces of sterling silver. Check the pendant, too, if the piece includes one.

Our Testing Kit should include a jeweler's file, as well. The tests we do will only detect the presence and purity of silver. Without scratching an inconspicuous place on the piece, enough to remove a slight portion of the plating possibly present, our test when done directly on the metal will only show the silver content of the thin layer covering the Jewellery. Conversely, sometimes sterling silver, itself, is plated with fine silver, 99.9% pure, giving even a greater brilliance to the shine.
We must handle the most useful part of the kit with caution—nitric acid; the corrosive nature of the sour substance can severely burn us. Keep sodium bicarbonate or baking soda with a first aid kit to neutralize the remaining acid after flushing with a lot of water, in case of skin contact.

Our kit should also include a rectangular acid testing stone, black in color. With this set-up, we must press the piece of Jewellery we want to test firmly against the black stone and scratch it along the stone for about an inch. We want a large, thick, noticeable mark brought to bear on the black stone. When we expose a drop of the acid used in the test to the deposit of silver scratched on the black stone, the chemical reaction will produce one of a variety of colors, which will indicate the presence of silver and its purity. Consider the black color background of the stone in your visual check of the following colors you may see. You shall see a creamy color when the reaction conveys a 90 to 100% silver purity, a gray color conveys 77 to 90% purity, and a light green conveys 65 to 75% silver and probably means it's a plated piece of base metal. You can also scratch through the possible plating in an inconspicuous place on the Jewellery, and apply a drop directly to the piece. It will, however, dull it there and leave a mark where we apply the acid.

Check online for a choice of suppliers to obtain a kit.

Provocative Inspiration Draws us Into Silver Jewellery Design

Becoming a serious hobbyist designing silver Jewellery, can deeply satisfy us in many areas of life as we overcome its challenges. Keeping awesome pieces that inspire our creativity near us will continue to remind us of the craft we aspire to master. Collecting unique silver Jewellery and positioning a small platform near our workbench prompts rotation of the fascinating exhibitions, evoking fresh perspective, aflame. Keeping in view creations beyond our current skill to produce and inspiring pieces we may soon emulate, will continue to stimulate the various stages of our improvement.

Around 330 A.D., when Byzantium had been taken by Constantine the 1st,, which is today's Istanbul, Turkey, much of the Byzantine Jewellery produced remains popular, today. A novice jeweler could start by designing their own Byzantine necklace, using dead-soft sterling silver wire. This isn't instruction, but by gathering many jump rings of various gauges and ring size combinations, we may create our first treasure by our own hands, learn to solder and more, and thoroughly enjoy this path with ardent determination. Start with 18 gauge and a 4.0 mm inner diameter (ID) ring, and creatively vary ring size while learning. The 16 gauge goes with a 4.8mm ID; 20 gauge, a 3.2 mm ID; and a 22 gauge goes with a 2.5 mm ID ring. Check the internet for quality Byzantine Jewellery.

Beginning with choices of techniques, wire work draws the novice because it requires few tools. But soon, we'll want to learn to solder. Conflicting answers become available about the skill. We should seek training materials or advice from long time jewelers, or both. The following only gives an itch satisfaction and a reason to continue the quest to acquire fresh, inspirational entertainment as we increase our artistic prowess.

To produce enough heat to solder any kind of Jewellery, we must invest in a jewelers torch, not a soldering iron. Setting up correctly will provide motivation and a workbench, tools, and our display of a collection of silver Jewellery will spur us onward. For soldering, we need boric acid and denatured alcohol. It protects, while reducing tarnishing and fire-scaling. We need flux for smooth solder flow, and water to rinse the pickling cleaner, which we apply to the silver Jewellery after soldering.

Solder won't fill a gap, but flows into the joints: touch the pieces together perfectly before soldering, set on stands we can build ourselves with variously strengthened clamps to hold the silver in place. Pick an appropriate sanding tool to close unwanted gaps. Dirt and pickling solution prevent solder flow, so we clean before, and between soldering if we need more solder. Place nothing closer to the heat than necessary to best focus the torch where we want it. We heat the bigger piece first so as not to melt anything before the solder flows. Solder flows to the heat and we must keep the fire smoothly in motion. We find the best fire size for the correct temperature with practice.

Another excellent form new artists use molds Precious Metal Clay (PMC), made from reclaimed silver, gold, and bronze, extracted from scrap electronics. Japanese scientists developed a pliable substance that combines particles of one or more of the precious metals with an elastic, water based organic binder, which manufacturers vacuum pack. If we mold PMC to the desired shape fresh out of the package, smooth it out, and creatively detail it, we may fire the PMC in a kiln and only the precious metal remains, 10 to 20% smaller, after the binder burns away. Keep collecting, but add your own distinction.

Silver Jewellery and The Subculture of Bikers

The bulk of men, even small ones, indulge the aura of their rugged, handsome, masculine, and individualistic personification when it suits them. But this doesn't make these men with the desire to, a subculture. Although, the perception many generate attribute these characteristics to esteem bikers and imagine wind flowing warmly over their face and through their hair, riding lazily along winding roads. Approaching a biker or anyone wielding the respect we expect in return, will likely yield us respect in return. The far too vastly promoted cynical image of grouped motorcyclists does not identify with the personalities of their majority.

The prejudice some show, depicting the riders as biker bumpkins or worse, reveals their vulnerability, their fear, and assumptions of certainty that highlight their ignorance. Whether the temptation anger draws for hostility struck claim in some bikers first or the prejudice harvested by a loud minority gave into a few cases of violence first, conflict always gets attention, first... Even as the common man seeks a rugged and masculine persona to ward off violence, regardless of what caused what, bikers wear Chunky Silver Bracelets or Skull Jewellery, bangles and other Items for the same reason, often with the sharp points of shiny, sterling silver barbed wire. Compare too and contrasts will assign distinction. All of us seek respect with the smartest look we can reckon in our silver Jewellery selections and otherwise. All of us maintain measurable responses to an inherent value system God has given us the freedom to abide in.

Respect the bikers command not only comes from the exorbitant prices they can spend on their ride, the brilliance of the heavy silver necklaces and other silver adornments can run many hundreds, even thousands of dollars, pounds, marks, et cetera, though we can find many .925 quality silver pieces of Jewellery for less than three hundred dollars. It's always nice to know that people are paying attention to us and though they might categorize us as bikers, we can only hope they don't isolate us as bikers. We're attorneys, we're doctors, we're clerks, salesmen, even babysitters, and most of us have mortgages, too, just like everyone else. And just like bikers' distant cousins, the lowriders, both of these societies enjoy the glitter and shine that bring attention. Many bikers also purchase the more durable strength to weight ratio of men's titanium bracelets and other selections we can find out there.

For every biker, many others retain the potential to become a motorcyclist, even if it's from the sheer desire of riding free against a summery, country breeze. They fathom themselves as mastering the biker's fashion sense and pick the bulky flare of heavy silver, also. Many won't go in for it, but the adventurous and those inclined to replace the curiosity in their hearts with hands-on riding and wearing experience, may rent a bike and buy some of the extrinsic riding gear, silver and titanium Jewellery.

The uncountable choices of silver, jewelers also design for all parts of the body: chains, pendants, trinkets, earrings, boot cutters, belts, bracelets, bangles, rings for various places, and biker women love the extremes as they outwardly advertise for a select few inward spots of their adorned supple femininity. In addition to warding off violence with heavy styles implying self-defense, the chunkier and sharper pieces work in a pinch to help fend off the unwise, although wisdom can often replace the counterstrike.
